Vietnam, July 29, 2026

Software Engineering at IDN

The fourth day in Vietnam started like usual. I woke up at 5 AM, performed the Fajr prayer, and continued with my morning dhikr. The difference was, I didn’t join the halaqah today because I was assigned to cooking duty.

The system was that each group sent two people every day for kitchen duty. From my group (Group 4), it was me and Ahza. From Group 3, there were Fayaz and Althaf, while Group 5 sent Bedul and Fathir Muda. The teachers accompanying us were Mr. Malik and Mr. Mustaqhim.

At first, we were excited to go to the market to buy ingredients, but once again, the weather didn’t cooperate it was raining that morning. In the end, we still went out wearing raincoats and pushed through the rain to reach the market.

Once we got there, Mr. Malik and Mr. Mustaqhim immediately started looking for ingredients, while we helped carry the groceries. Honestly, the market in Vietnam felt very similar to traditional markets in Indonesia. The difference was that there was a lot of pork being sold, so we had to be more careful and selective.

After gathering all the ingredients, we headed straight back to the homestay. Long story short, we started cooking and then had breakfast. Because of the rain earlier, the schedule was slightly delayed we only had breakfast at around 8 AM, even though classes were supposed to start at that time. As a result, the learning session (KBM) was postponed to 9 AM.

When KBM started, the class arrangement was quite unique. The RPL students (including me) studied in Group 3’s room, the TKJ students were at the homestay of Groups 1 and 2, and the DKV students used my group’s room, Group 4. As expected, the environment wasn’t very conducive since the rooms were small. Thankfully, it was only the first day of KBM, so we didn’t dive into heavy lessons we just set up Flutter.

The main problem was… the WiFi it was extremely slow. Still, it was slightly better than the WiFi on the 4th floor.

After KBM ended, we immediately performed the Dhuhr prayer. It turned out there were no more classes afterward instead, we were given an assignment to create a vlog. Each group consisted of three students. My group included me, Mumtaz, and Fatah.

We decided to make a vlog with the theme: “Hunting for halal snacks in a Japanese minimarket in Hanoi.” Without overthinking, we headed there right away. The distance was quite far, about 1 km from the homestay, and the heat in Hanoi that afternoon was intense.

When we arrived at the minimarket, we immediately started looking for halal snacks. Turns out… it was really difficult we spent about 10 minutes just walking around trying to find products with halal labels. Eventually, we managed to find some.

I bought cheese chocolate cream biscuits, Mumtaz bought Korean BBQ-flavored almonds, and Fatah bought plain crackers which were quite expensive at 65,000 VND.

After finishing our snack review for the vlog, we headed back to the homestay. Once we got there, Fatah immediately started editing the video. Why him? Because he had CapCut Pro

After Asr, things were pretty relaxed. I personally chose to take a nap. When I woke up, it was already close to Maghrib. The cooking duty was supposed to start at 4 PM, but for some reason, there was no call, so I just continued sleeping.

Apparently, Mr. Tio had already cooked eggs. In the end, we still ate, but our part was to help wash the dishes.

At night, after the Isha prayer, we returned to our usual routine opening our laptops, transferring files, and writing our daily journal. And that’s how the fourth day in Vietnam came to an end tiring, but still full of fun and new experiences.
