The Travel Guide: How to not travel like an IDIOT (A travel & biography book)

Muhammad Aiman
Software Engineering at IDN

Opening

My name is Muhammad Aiman. I am 17 years old, I was born on April 18, 2009. I am a 11th grade senior high school student in IDN Boarding School, and my major is Software Developing. I enjoy learning new things and improving myself, both academically and personally. I always try to stay motivated, work hard, and make the most out of every opportunity.

In this book I’ll be sharing about my adventures in twenty countries across the world for 10 months. It all started in the July 26th, where I embarked on a one hour car ride to the Soekarno Hatta international airport in Tangerang Banten with my parents and two siblings, but before I started to leave my house I forgot my glasses because I was very negligent and unprepared so I was 30 minutes late when I arrived at the meeting point in the Soekarno Hatta international airport.

The first thing I did when I arrived at the airport was carry my heavy 13kg Osprey Atmos AG 65 carrier backpack and my daypack with my laptop. Before I continue the story I would like to tell you about the items needed for this 10 month program. First you'll need a hiking backpack with a minimal recommended capacity of 60 liters and a maximum recommended size of 70 liters, then you’ll need basic clothing such as shirts and pants, you’ll also need to bring additional stuff like a camera for documenting and a lot more.

After I packed all my items and carried all of them like I said before I was 30 minutes late to the gathering point because I overpacked and that problem will foreshadow me for the months to come.

I was late to one event in particular and it was the urine nicotine tests. It was one of the most important and mandatory events before traveling because my school is very religious and smoking or vaping is very condomed. They gave me a bar-like object like those used in pregnancy tests, after I did my business I returned the test and the result was negative indicating two bars. The results from the test was very reliving, so then I walked to one of the organizers and they gave me a bucket hat, a vest, and a shirt, after they gave me the main attire of the event I went to the small praying room with my friends and prayed Maghrib and Isha prayer because I’m a mussafir or a traveler.

After I finished the prayer I put on the attire in a bathroom stall then jolted to the rendezvous point where me and my friends talked about the things we’re going to do in the school program. We were full of mixed expressions and feelings. Some felt sad and homesick, some felt excited and filled with adrenaline. It's like a roller coaster but with mixed feelings. After I talked with my friends I ate dinner while hearing speeches from the lead organizers, to my classmates parents, and even the head director of the school program. Then there was an event called Last words where we socialize and talk with our family face to face one last time before departing to 20 countries.

Two hours later, we took group photos with family members, group members and the organizers. We also had a small short ten minute discussion about what we need to do and should do in the event while also giving pep talks to each other.

After we entered the baggage submissions we said our final goodbyes then headed to the immigration place then to the terminal we waited for one hour for our plane because it got delayed. After the plane arrived we walked inside the plane and sat in our seats.
